Means And Methods

In the last post we explored the Church's Mission: "to restore all people in unity with God and with each other in Christ." How it accomplishes that Mission, the Means and Methods the Church uses, is set out in the next interrogatory in the Catechism:  THE CHURCH PURSUES ITS MISSION AS IT PRAYS, WORSHIPS, PROCLAIMS THE GOSPEL AND PROMOTES JUSTICE, PEACE AND LOVE.   (Book of Common Prayer, p. 855).

Let's break that down a bit.  First, the Church PURSUES its Mission. The word "pursuit" connotes an active hunt taking place--not a body passively waiting for the restoration of unity to be accomplished divinely or by others. Thus, for us to partake in the Church's Mission, we should expect to be called to a work both vigorous and passionate. We are on a hunt Brothers!

Second, this active pursuit is well defined for us in our Catechism. It is constituted of Prayer--Worship--Proclaiming--Promoting. If anyone from the outside should ask how the Men Of Purpose seek to accomplish the Church's Mission, here we could find our ready answer. We pray, worship, proclaim the Gospel and promote the fruit of a life in Jesus Christ, a life of justice, peace and love--all in hot pursuit of the Church's Mission to restore unity with God for all people and with each other in Christ. Amen.
