Lenten Series--First Sunday.TEMPTATION

Almighty God, whose blessed Son was led by the Spirit to be tempted by Satan: Come quickly to help us who are assaulted by many temptations; and, as you know the weaknesses of each of us, let each one find you mighty to save; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
  • The Lesson for the First Sunday in Lent speaks to the power of temptation in our lives, and the breach that begins forming between us and God when we fail to resist.
  • God responded initially by casting the first man from the Garden and committing his progeny to a lifetime of toil. He then responded to the wickedness of His fallen creation by resetting humanity through Noah.
  • The tempted Psalmist beseeches the Lord to reveal His ways and teach His path so that we may keep the covenant promised to Noah.
  • Through Peter, from who's writings our Epistle is chosen, we learn of the saving power of Christ from that which tempts us.
  • Finally, we see the duality of Christ in the form of His own temptation, wherein by his flesh he is tempted, and through His divinity we are all saved from the sin of which He alone is innocent.

All men are welcome to join us in the Quonset Hut (Room 302) at 10:00 a.m. this Sunday (2/26/12) to explore this in the fellowship of Men of Purpose.

  1. Men of Purpose:

This Sunday we will move from the temptation that Jesus faced in the wilderness (not that we are ever without it) and start walking down the road to redemption and salvation. I hope to see all of you there this Sunday.

  2. Sorry I couldn't be there. I was giving the Dolphin/Dafodil talk at MP Methodist. I heard great things about it afterward from several, including the Rector. Good work and thanks to DA for the lead.
