The Armor

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. (Ephesians 6:11) When I was in the Army, the field uniform was called the BDU, which stood for Battle Dress Uniform. It was the uniform the soldier donned to fight, not to work in an office. It was tough, camoflauged and had many pockets to hold the things a soldier needed when he went into combat. It was made to be worn with combat boots, not dress shoes. It was loose fitting, so the soldier could enjoy the freedom of movement he would need when he fought. The presumption I assumed the BDU's designer made was that our enemy was crafty, and we needed to be properly clothed to win when we fought him. Through history, a soldier's uniform has changed with the advancing state of weaponry, but the need for a proper battle dress has never changed. So it is with our ever-present battle with the evil one. His means and methods may change with the world over which he has dominion, but his intent: to overcome us, has never changed. Children of God as we are, we are equipped with the full set of armor that is His Truth. God provides it to us so that we will don it in defense of the evil one's machinations. But we have to put it on for it to work. And we have to put it on every day, because the Devil does not rest.
